Episode Notes

Contestant Notes

Jonathan Ansell (4.1 Celebrity Special)
Lynsey De Paul reduced her score for Jonathan before her party because "he spent so much time in the kitchen, and he was away so much time from the table, and so much time in between each courses".
Claudette Brady (4.4 Bournemouth)
Sonia Peck: "I think she could've, maybe, benefited from, maybe, just choosing one of everything and just serving it as it was, erm, so I score her a three."
The following day Sonia Peck increased her mark for Claudette because "I felt maybe slightly regretful that I'd been a bit mean, erm, I think after the palaver I had with the cheesecake I realized that under pressure it really is quite difficult and her food was nice, so I'd like to up my mark to her by one."
Jane Morton (4.9 Glasgow)
The following day Wendy Ockrim reduced Jane's score: "In the cold light of day I think I'm actually gonna change my score because when I've analyzed it there was lots of things that I felt she should of done, and perhaps didn't do, which I did. So I've decided that I'm going to reduce my mark from a seven to a six.
Zara Davies (4.11 Norwich)
David Knight's originally scored Zara lowly because "The house was filthy, the food wasn't great. Not my idea of a great dinner party." But the following morning he reconsidered, "I think I was, probably, just a bit blinded by the house as opposed to all the effort that she went to. So I'd like to change my mark. And I'd like to give Zara a five."
Wendy Holdsworth (4.11 Norwich)
Wendy is identified in the programme as Wendy Holdsworth but on the Channel 4 web site as Wendy Atkinson.
Bernard Dorsett (4.12 Preston)
The relationship between Dawn and Bernard was strained after he had accused during both of the first two parties of trying to dominate conversations and not allow others a chance to speak. The other guests, though, instead attributed these outbursts to Bernard being unable to cope with not being the centre of attention. Following the main course Dawn privately said "I really hope that Bernard doesn't hate me, I really do. Really do. I don't hate anybody, me. I don't hate anybody in the world, ever. Very harsh word is 'hate'. 'Dislike' maybe, but... Erm, but... No... I think, but... I'm probably upset because I'm so tired, absolutely shattered. Ready for bed. Enough." She then left the party without saying goodbye. The following morning the dessert is sent to her by courier so she can taste it and rate the evening, as required by the rules of the competition. She added then: "I was so tired and didn't wanna tell anybody I were going. I said and... I felt a bit rude but I didn't wanna spoilt the party by falling asleep and putting a downer on it. So I went, out for count: home, sleep, snoring".
Dawn Barry (4.12 Preston)
After leaving the previous party early, Dawn was also feeling very tired during her own evening. So went off to sleep after the starter, leaving Nigel to cook the main course.
Matthew Nichols (4.15 Manchester)
The following morning Shaida Shipping said: "I felt last night was... I was really, really cold and I couldn't sleep and it took me hours and hours, erm, to get to... err, get to.. get to sleep. And also, erm, it was quite boring, the night was very long and there was no entertainment. So I'm gonna score Matthew down to six."

Contestants' Ratings

Nigel Evans (4.12 Preston)
Valerie Holliday: "Nigel was a very good host, and for that I'm going to give him a six."
Bernard Dorsett: "I'm gonna base my score on Nigel and the food and not my disagreement. So I'm gonna give Nigel an eight."
Dawn Barry: "Nigel's food tonight was absolutely amazing, absolutely fabulous. I'm gonna give him a total of ten out of ten. 'Cos I thought it was amazing."
Paul Morris: "Tonight I think Nigel's been a fantastic host, and I think he's put a major dent in my chances of winning this. So I'm gonna have to give him a solid eight."
Valerie Holliday (4.12 Preston)
Nigel Evans: "I gave Val a six. Good host, bad food."
Bernard Dorsett: "I'm gonna give Val an eight."
Dawn Barry: "I'm gonna give Val an eight. Because her evening was great, her hostessing was great, and the food was fantastic."
Paul Morris: "Tonight, I'm gonna give Val a seven. Err, think she was a fantastic host, err, just the food let her done a little bit."
Bernard Dorsett (4.12 Preston)
Nigel Evans: "For the evening I thought was quite dull. He tries. And I give him, Bernard, a four."
Valerie Holliday: "The evening has been quite flat. Erm, and for this reason I'm going to give Bernard a score of five."
Dawn Barry: "Last night, Bernard's evening, erm, was okay, and the food was... alright. Erm, but the fact that he gave me the flowers and he gave Val flowers... he was trying to apologize and gave me this tequilla glass, I felt it wasn't genuine. I felt it was a little bit false and he was trying to impress everybody else. Erm, so it was a little bit sad, really. But, erm, for that reason I'm only gonna give him a three."
Paul Morris: "Tonight, erm, not as good as the other two nights. Bit disjointed. The food started off very nice and went downhill, and further downhill. So that's why, tonight, I'm gonna give a five."
Dawn Barry (4.12 Preston)
Nigel Evans: "It was a total disaster, tonight, but I love her."
Valerie Holliday: "Tonight has been horrendous. It has been something I've never come across in all my years on this Earth. I'm going to give Dawn a four, tonight, because the night has been disastrous."
Bernard Dorsett: "Tonight, I'm gonna give Dawn a one. Unfortunately, I would like to give her more but after what I've just seen, and not eaten, erm, that's, err, gonna have to be the case, unfortunately."
Paul Morris: "Today has just been an absolute car crash of a dinner party, hasn't it. The worst dinner party I've ever been ad... in the whole of my life. Err, tonight I'm gonna give Dawn a one. Because, err, she's got other people cooking her courses. It didn't taste very nice, terrible food. Complete car crash."
Paul Morris (4.12 Preston)
Nigel Evans: "Tonight, Paul, as a host, fabulous. Absolutely... exactly what I thought it'd be. Attentive, he was brilliant, the food was fantastic. Loved every minute of it and I give Paul a nine."
Valerie Holliday: "The evening was a little bit flat, tonight. Probably because it's the last night, and we're all getting a bit tired and want to go home. And for that reason I'm going to give Paul a score of five."
Bernard Dorsett: "Paul, tonight, was the perfect host. He did not disappoint, his food was on the ball, he paid attention to detail. He was the all round host and cook, and for that reason I'm gonna give Paul, tonight, a eight."
Dawn Barry: "I give Paul a seven, tonight, because it's been great. I've had a really good time. Erm, I just don't like king prawns, it's like urrgh."
Zoë Condon (4.13 Ipswich)
Barry Davis: "There was too much melted cheese and not enough seasoning and... and flavour and taste. So I give her a seven."
Angie Robertson: "I wasn't keen on the fish platter, it's not my thing. The jelly could have been a bit more flavoursome. But other than that, tonight, I think I'm gonna score Zoë an eight."
Lisa Quinton: "Zoë was a great host. Couldn't taste the Pimm's in the jelly, but the ice cream was fab. So I'm giving Zoë a seven."
Gerard King: "Zoë was a great hostess, she made us feel really comfortable, but I didn't quite get enough bacon, so lucky seven."
Barry Davis (4.13 Ipswich)
Zoë Condon: "I'm giving Barry a six for his dinner, tonight. Erm, don't think he was on top form as a host. Err, the execution of the food wasn't particularly, erm, brilliant."
Angie Robertson: "Beef goulash, Baz, was lovely don't change a thing. But I'm afraid I struggled a bit with the rest, not quite up to scratch."
Lisa Quinton: "I'm giving Barry a six."
Gerard King: "Because he's a really nice guy, he kept his sense of humour all night. The food was great and I enjoyed the evening."
Angie Robertson (4.13 Ipswich)
Zoë Condon: "I'm sorry, I think Angie's been a horrible hostess. Erm, she's insulted me for the last time, tonight, if she does it again tomorrow night I'm gonna kick off. My score for this evening for Angie's going to be a three. Erm, I'm sorry, I'm just fed up with the comments and the insults. Her food could have been fantastic tonight, it wasn't fantastic, a couple of items were really nice. Erm, I don't think she's been much of a hostess and actually I'm starting to find her really rude as the week goes on."
Barry Davis: "The main was bizarre. Err, the f... the, you know, the... the dessert was absolutely first class."
Lisa Quinton: "I absolutely loved her starter, which I have to say wasn't at all what I was expecting, 'cos I was expecting cold soup. The dessert was just made in heaven and the highlight of the night was the singing. But I wasn't that struck on the whole main course."
Gerard King: "I'm gonna give Angie an eight. 'Cos what sh... what she did was... she put an awful lot of effort in. The food was very good."
Lisa Quinton (4.13 Ipswich)
Zoë Condon: "Obviously I f... found t... the paper in my dessert, erm, but all.. for the rest of the evening, erm, she definitely gets a seven."
Barry Davis: "It was as I expected. Erm, little bit kooky, erm... enjoyable, erm... sorry, should I open my eyes, is that what I have to do? Erm... I wasn't really keen on the food, erm, so tonight I shall be giving Linda (sic) a seven."
Angie Robertson: "I give Lisa a nine."
Gerard King: "She cooked some really good food, laid on some good entertainment. And I think that helped with the circumstances, with certain people not getting on so well. We all got on really well, tonight, had a good night and enjoyed ourselves. So for that reason, I'm gonna give Lisa a seven."
Gerard King (4.13 Ipswich)
Zoë Condon: "Overall I think his night was just as good as Lisa's, erm, so that's why he's got seven."
Barry Davis: "Experience-wise, it was no better or no worse than the others so I'm... I'm keeping... trying to keep it quite consistent. Err, so I give him a seven 'cos I really enjoyed it."
Angie Robertson: "Tonight, I'm gonna give Gerard an eight. And I'm giving him an eight because he came through for me, he came through with what he was all about."
Lisa Quinton: "The atmosphere has been so much calmer, so much nicer, and everyone's really getting on."
Judi Lembke (4.14 South London)
Lisa Connell: "I'm going to give Judi an eight. The food and atmosphere absolutely fantastic."
Peter Rixham: "It has to be a nine for Judi. Fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere."
Moni Bharij: "I'm going to give a ten because she was a great host, fabulous food, and it was perfect. Loved it all."
Matthew Baker: "I'm gonna give Judi a seven. I felt it was very well hosted, a very nice meal, but dessert kind of let her down a bit."
Lisa Connell (4.14 South London)
Judi Lembke: "I thought, you know, there's some glitches there... here and there. But overall it was a really lovely evening."
Peter Rixham: "I'm giving Lisa a stupendous, superb seven for a fantastic evening. She's encountered lots of circumstances beyond her control, this evening, I think, and she's coped admirably."
Moni Bharij: "Tonight, I'm going to give Lisa an eight. Because she wasn't with us that much, she should have been with us a bit longer, and the dessert wasn't what I expected it to be."
Matthew Baker: "I'm gonna give Lisa a six, which is a bit harsh, but I'm afraid the, err... the main meal was very, very late and undercooked, which was a real shame."
Peter Rixham (4.14 South London)
Judi Lembke: "I'm going to give Peter a seven because I thought his dessert was fantastic, absolutely the best dessert. Really, really, really good. Erm.. the starter was good, the main ([she gestures mediocre with her hands]) it was good but mmmmm..."
Lisa Connell: "Peter was the host with the most, and therefore I'm going to award him a perfect ten."
Moni Bharij: "Tonight, I'm going to give Peter an eight. The food was lovely, really nice, and tasteful. However, he didn't have my favourite wine, but I brought my own, and there was no water on the table so I did feel a little dehydrated."
Matthew Baker: "I'm going to give it an eight, because I felt it did come down on a few points which were to do with the coulis, which I felt was a bit watery, and the, err, beef bourguignon, which wasn't... perhaps wasn't quite the appropriate dish for a sum... nice hot... essentially a summer evening."
Moni Bharij (4.14 South London)
Judi Lembke: "All three courses tonight, absolutely were fantastic. I thought she served really wonderful food. "
Lisa Connell: "I'm going to give Moni a perfect ten. Fantastic. She put so much effort into her meal."
Peter Rixham: "For this evening, I feel that Moni has been superb. She's been sparkly, therefore it's a sparkly seven."
Matthew Baker: "A few sort-of lapses of forgetting to give us some wine and water. I'm gonna be harsh again and give it a seven."
Matthew Baker (4.14 South London)
Judi Lembke: "I loved everything I had this week, but, I have to say... I would say the food I liked best, and the evening I liked best, would be tonight. So I'll give it a nine."
Lisa Connell: "And if I was allowed I'd give him a nine point five, because I think he was really, really good. Really controlled and the food was fantastic."
Peter Rixham: "This evening has been incredibly smooth, it's been slick, it's had sensational aspects to it. I think Matthew has to get a superb seven. And that was my initial reaction, but to be honest Matthew's a real epicurean, therefore I think it has to be a gastronomic eight."
Moni Bharij: "I'm giving Matthew a ten because his starter was amazing, main course was divine, and the dessert which was mouthwatering. The wine was just the icing on the cake. Beautiful. He deserves a ten from me."
Dave Wheeler (4.15 Manchester)
Matthew Nichols: "I thought he was a really good host, and he provided top-notch entertainment and tried to make us laugh all through the meal, but the food wasn't always up to a high standard."
Jane Bates: "I've enjoyed the evening so much. Not particularly the food but just the whole event, so I'm gonna give Dave seven."
Shaida Shipping: "Food wasn't very good and I felt the jokes were not, err.. the little turd and the farting was not to my taste."
Chris Brady: "The food just wasn't up to scratch and just a little bit to cheesy for me."
Matthew Nichols (4.15 Manchester)
Dave Wheeler: "Tonight, I have no choice but to give Matt a ten. And that is because, in my eyes, he has achieved perfection. I can't find any fault."
Jane Bates: "I enjoyed the food tonight although last night I think was a little bit more fun and upbeat."
Shaida Shipping: "The food was absolutely fantastic, but I felt the evening was really boring, otherwise I could have given him more."
Chris Brady: "Alright, this evening I'm gonna give, erm, Matthew a seven. Erm, fantastic night. Would have liked my lamb a little bit more well cooked and a little less passion fruit. But, yeah, fantastic effort, lovely guy."
Jane Bates (4.15 Manchester)
Dave Wheeler: "I would mark Jane, a very, very solid nine."
Matthew Nichols: "I am going to give Jane a seven. I thought she was a fantastic host. I might have marked her a little bit higher but I would have liked the dessert to be a little bit sweeter."
Shaida Shipping: "I give Jane seven, because her starter and main course was wonderful and she was, err, a brilliant... brilliant hostess but I feel the, erm, dessert was not as good."
Chris Brady: "Right, for this evening's party I give Jane a big massive, whopping ten. Despite the fact the dessert wasn't my flavour, it is the best dinner party I've ever been to."
Shaida Shipping (4.15 Manchester)
Dave Wheeler: "Tonight, for Shaida, I'll give her a four. The food was too spicy for me, the entertainment was average. I didn't really enjoy the evening, so, err, that's probably the worst score I'm gonna give this week"
Matthew Nichols: "Tonight, I'm going to give Shaida a three. The dancing was great, and loads of fun, but the food and the atmosphere were just not up to ballroom standard."
Jane Bates: "Err, I enjoyed the starter, I wasn't that keen on the rest of the food. Erm, I didn't think there was much atmosphere for the evening until the end when the dancers came in. That really uplifited the evening. So, err, I'll give her a six."
Chris Brady: "This evening I'm giving Shaida a three, entertainment was great but the food was substandard."
Chris Brady (4.15 Manchester)
Dave Wheeler: "I think Chris put his heart and soul into tonight, erm, and the food was extremely acceptable. Erm, I know he had problems, but for all of that he's definitely deserving of an eight."
Matthew Nichols: "The food has been good, but a little bit disappointing based on the promise of the menu that he offered, so I'm going to give Chris a seven."
Jane Bates: "Very funny, very attentive, but his food wasn't quite up to the standard that I'd anticipated. So therefore, tonight, I am gonna give him a seven."
Shaida Shipping: "I do love marshmallows. I think for that, only that, the food wasn't very good. I give him four."
Tony Griffiths (4.16 Sunderland)
Bernice Saltzer: "I've given Tony a six."
Ashley Hughes: "Hospitality I would give a hundred, but for the food a seven."
Anthony Merton-Smith: "The first course and dessert were pretty lame. So, although Tony you're a lovely guy, I'm afraid I can only give you a five."
Roy Ledger: "It was sorta nice, but I'm afraid I'm gonna give yer a six. Sorry mate."
Bernice Saltzer (4.16 Sunderland)
Tony Griffiths: "Tonight, Bernice, I'm gonna give you an eight out of ten. The food was absolutely spectacular. The atmosphere was a bit tense."
Ashley Hughes: "The six is mainly for the main course, and the attentiveness. Sorry, Bernice, but it's a six."
Anthony Merton-Smith: "Tonight, I'm gonna give Bernice an eight. I was considering a higher mark and whilst the... the food was quite delicious, all three courses, the salmon wasn't quite as exciting as I'd... I had hoped it would be."
Roy Ledger: "Tonight, I'm gonna give Bernice a seven. Bernice, you were gonna get a six, because I thought that your food was a little bit stodgy, the starter and the main course, but you won me through with the sweet. The sweet was yum yum."
Ashley Hughes (4.16 Sunderland)
Tony Griffiths: "It was one of the most perfect dinner parties I've ever been to, erm, and I'm gonna give Ashley nine out of ten."
Bernice Saltzer: "I think it was a night where there's some really good bits and some not quite so good bits that didn't quite work. So that's why I'm gonna give Ashley a seven."
Anthony Merton-Smith: "The menu sounded quite interesting, err, but I think some of the things fell short, err, of what was promised. And so, Ashley, tonight, erm, I'm gonna give you a six."
Roy Ledger: "For me she's the clear winner at the moment. So for me, Ashley, you get an eight."
Anthony Merton-Smith (4.16 Sunderland)
Tony Griffiths: "I thought the food was brilliant but his hosting skills were crap. So, therefore, I'm giving him a score of eight."
Bernice Saltzer: "I would have given him a much higher score 'cos I thought his food was really, really good but the timing has been really bad."
Ashley Hughes: "It's nearly two o'clock in the morning. Erm, it... it was too much too late "
Roy Ledger: "Tonight, I'm gonna give Anthony a seven, and the reason that he's dropped a couple of points is because his lack of organization skills."
Roy Ledger (4.16 Sunderland)
Tony Griffiths: "He's pulled out all the stop, erm, it's just been brilliant and tonight I'm gonna award nine points. Well done, mate."
Bernice Saltzer: "The, erm, food let it... did let it down a bit tonight, and for that reason I'm gonna give Roy a six."
Ashley Hughes: "I don't like Christmas, so I'm sorry but it's six."
Anthony Merton-Smith: "Comparing it to the others, I... I really, err, have no choice but, Roy, to give you a five for tonight. Sorry."
